Starting a journal on bioinformatics
Hello reader, I've spent the last few years reading papers, working with pipelines, and working with researchers wanting to make sense of their data and I can say I've learnt a lot. Thinking back I wish I had done this sooner but nonetheless, this site is a place where I write things down — partly for my future self, partly so that others can stumble on the same gotchas a little faster than I did.
What I'll write about
As someone who started out as a biologist and is trying to pivot into the computational sciences (without throwing away the biologist in me), I decided to document everything in my journey relevant to this space - genomics, bioinformatics and maybe AI (since this is becoming more integral in our lives). Honestly, I am not too sure on how this website is going to shape up but in the least, it will serve as evidence of my journey in bioinformatics. From time to time, I anticipate there will be topics covering:
- Tools: hands-on notes on software I have used.
- Algorithms: short explainers on theoretical concepts and data structures.
- Papers: breakdown of papers I'm trying to understand (and the mathematics).
- Mistakes: my experiences as well as my two takes on them.
Yeah so I guess that's it for my intro.
See you on the next one.
